Noted Afghan writer stalked by gunman in his Kabul home

The day before yesterday a man carrying a gun was turned away by local residents of a Macrorayon apartment building. The man said he was looking for the apartment of Rahnaward Zaryab.

Zaryab is one of Afghanistan’s most distinguished writers and journalists in the Dari language. During the Taliban regime, he lived in exile in France, but returned to Kabul in 2004— one of the few Afghan writers to do so at that time. He is known as a champion of free speech and a keen observer of policies that continue to hinder Afghanistan’s cultural growth, even after the fall of the Taliban.

Rahnaward is safe and OK.
